Funeral services for Leon Hughes, 79, of Stratford, were held Wednesday, Aug. 28 at the First Baptist Church, Stratford. Rev. Dennis Schoolfield conducted the 2:00 p.m. service. Interment was held at the South Marion Cemetery in Stratford.

Mr. Hughes passed away Monday morning, August 26, 1985 at the Hamilton County Hospital, Webster City. He had been in ill health for several years.

At the service Mr. and Mrs. Norman Erickson sang, "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross." The congregation sang, "How Great Thou Art." Accompanist was Mrs. Norman Erickson. Bearers were Chris Leaf, Julie Leaf, Suzanne Leaf, Melissa Leaf Nelson, Jonathan Nelson and Terry Inboden.

Leon Hughes was born on July 19, 1906 at Shibley's Point, Mo. He was educated at Stahl, Mo. and Stanhope, Iowa. Leon was a pipeline construction worker, working all over the United States and South America. The past four years he made his home with his daughter. He was a member of the Engineers Union Local 101.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Paul (VaDonna) Leaf, Stratford; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
