Hasselstrom

Swan Hasselstrom, one of the early settlers of Hamilton county, passed away at his home south of Stratford, Friday morning, April 30, 1909, at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 14 days.

Deceased was born in Hassla Församling, Västrergötaland, Skaraborgs län, Sweden, March 16, 1830. He was united in marriage to Maria Sophia Olofson in Lyrestad's Församling, Västrergötaland, Sweden, October, 1853. To them were born five sons and six daughters, one daughter having died in infancy. He with his family came to this country in the spring of 1873 and located in Hamilton county on a farm south of Stratford, where he has since made his home. Although deceased had been in poor health during the past winter, his death came very unexpectedly. He leaves to mourn his departure an aged wife, five daughters, five sons, one step-son, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, besides numerous relatives and friends.

The funeral ceremony was conducted at the residence Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. C.G. Bengtson being in charge. The remains were laid to rest in the South Marion cemetery.

Sven Svenssson was born March 16, 1830 in Hassle, Skaraborg, Sweden, the son of Sven Olsson and Cajsa Bengtsdotter. Baptized on March 21, 1830 at Hassle, Skaraborg, Sweden.

He married Maria Sofia Olofsdotter on November 18, 1853 at Lyrestad, Skaraborg, Sweden (marriage banns were on Oct. 23, Oct. 30 and Nov. 6).

Skaraborg County, or Skaraborgs län, was a county of Sweden until December 31, 1998 when it was merged with the counties of Gothenburg and Bohus and Älvsborg to form Västra Götaland County.
