Daughter of Otto and Christina Sophia (Hanson) Lunbom. Her mother died shortly after her birth and she was adopted by her aunt and uncle, John Oscar and Hilda Sophia (Lunbom) Newman. She married John Rudolph Gustafson on Dec. 22, 1915 in Hamilton County, Iowa.

Bertha Mae Gustafson

STRATFORD - Bertha Mae Gustafson, 86, of Stratford, died at the Grandview Care Center in Dayton Monday. Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Stratford First Baptist Church, Pastor Robert Haring officiating.

Burial will be in the South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford. Friends may call at the Hanson-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford, from 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday.

Survivors include one daughter, Marjorie (Mrs. Russell) Anderson of Stratford, a son, Jerold Gustafson of Irwin, six granddaughters, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also, two half-sisters, Vera Williams of Chicago and Gladys Lunbom of Vashon, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her foster parents, a son, a son-in-law, a grandson, three sisters, one half-sister and three brothers.

Bertha Mae Gustafson was born April 28, 1895 in Manson, the daughter of Otto and Christine Lunbom. After her mother died, she was raised by Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Newman. She attended rural school near her home, and graduated in 1914.

She and J. Rudolph Gustafson were married Dec. 22, 1915, in Stanhope.

She was a member of the Stratford First Baptist Church, the Stratford Legion Auxiliary and the Royal Neighbors Club.
