Adelene E. Fry, 91, Stratford

Adelene E. Fry, 91, of 1250 Hwy 175, Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford, Iowa on Sunday morning, August 21, 2005.

She was born on May 12, 1914 in a log house on a farm south of Stratford the daughter Emil and Laura (Stromert) Nelson. Adelene received her education through 8th grade at the Munson country school and graduated from Stratford High School in 1931. On June 9, 1932 she married Verlyn Fry. She and Verlyn farmed for 40 years southeast of Stratford. They remained on the farm after retirement until they moved to Athens Woods in 2002. She enjoyed music, singing and playing the piano.

Adelene was a member of the South Marion United Methodist Church where for a number of years she served as organist for the church and choir. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Her parents, a sister Hazel and her brother-in-law, Clarence Murken, 2 sons-in-law, Kenneth Lutjen and Max Galloway and one grandson, Doran Lutjen in infancy preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Verlyn of Stratford, Iowa, 4 daughters, Gayle Lutjen of Boone, Betty Ricke and her husband John of Clarion, Iowa, Joan Galloway of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Linda Nelson and her husband Galen of Sargeant Bluff, Iowa, 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one brother Robert Nelson of Boulder, Colorado.

Services will be held Wednesday afternoon, August 24th at 1:00 p.m. at the South Marion United Methodist Church south of Stratford with Lay Minister Gina Spohnheimer and Rev. Remigio Panlaqui officiating.

Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday at the South Marion United Methodist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family will be present at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to greet friends. Memorials may be given to the South Marion United Methodist Church. Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Stratford, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
