Verlyn A. Fry, 95, of 1250 Highway 175, Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford, Iowa on Tuesday morning, December 26, 2006.

He was born on June 9, 1911 in Stratford, Iowa the son of Noble and Estella (Linn) Fry. Verlyn attended school in Stratford and graduated from high school there in 1930. On June 9, 1932, he married Adelene Nelson.

He and Adelene farmed for 40 years southeast of Stratford. They remained on the farm after retirement until they moved to Athens Woods in 2002. In addition to farming, Verlyn worked for the Hamilton County ASCS Office, served on the Stratford Elevator board, the Stratford Mutual Telephone Board, and was township cemetery clerk for many years. He was an active member of the South Marion United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

His parents, wife, Adelene in August of 2005, 4 sisters, Violet Deo, Leota Fry, Quentin Smith, Tena Mae Crary, 2 sons-in-law, Kenneth Lutjen and Max Galloway, and 1 grandson, Doran Lutjen in infancy, preceded him in death.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Gayle Lutjen of Boone, Iowa, Betty (John) Ricke of Clarion, IA, Joan Galloway of Ft. Collins, CO, Linda (Sam) Nelson of Sergeant Bluff, IA, 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 1 brother-in-law, Robert (Midge) Nelson of Boulder, CO.

Services will be held Friday afternoon, December 29th at 1:00 P.M. at the South Marion United Methodist Church south of Stratford with Rev. Remigio Panlaqui and Lay Minister Gina Spohnheimer officiating. Interment will be in South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford, Iowa.

Friends may call at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford on Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Friday morning at the South Marion United Methodist Church south of Stratford from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. A Masonic service will be conducted by the Acacia Masonic Lodge #176 on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church. The family will be present at the Calvary United Methodist Church on Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. to greet friends. Memorials may be given to the South Marion United Methodist Church.
