Obituary

Nels Erickson

Nels Erickson, prominent farmer of this community, died in his home five and three-quarters miles northeast of Stratford, Friday evening after a lingering illness.

Funeral rites were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Baptist church following a service in the family home at 1:15 o'clock. Both were in charge of the Rev. James Selander, the pastor. At the church service the pastor used for his text, John 14:1,2. Mrs. LeRoy Fisher and Mrs. Oscar Borg, with Mrs. James Selander playing the accompaniments, sang "Ivory Palaces" and "City Four Square."

Burial rites were in the South Marion cemetery, the pallbearers being, Vernie and Iver Carlberg, Melvin and Oscar Engstrom, Berkley Berglund and Ernest Anderson.

Nels Erickson, son of Eric and Martha [Nilsdotter] Erickson, was born in Norrbo village, Bollnas parish, Helsingland, Sweden, June 19, 1871. At his death on Nov. 27, 1942, he was 71 years, 5 months, 8 days old.

He came to this country in 1888, at 16 years of age, and came direct to Stratford where he worked for some years on farms for relatives. Aug. 7, 1901, he was united in marriage to Clara Berglund, of this community and they set up housekeeping on a farm. They had lived on their present farm for nine years.

Left to mourn are his wife, and the following children: Emil, Waller and Arvid, all of Stratford, Mrs. Leonard Wing, of Stanhope, and Alice, at home. He is also survived by one brother, George, of Stratford, several grandchildren and other relatives.
