Myrtle Erickson, 91, Stanhope

Myrtle Erickson, 91, Stanhope, died Tuesday Jan. 16, 2001 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, with Rev. Dale Schoening and Gina Spohnheimer, ministry assistant, officiating. Burial will be in the South Marion Cemetery, east of Stratford. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and prior to the service on Friday.

Myrtle Martha Elizabeth Peterson, daughter of Carl and Emily Nelson Peterson, was born April 7, 1909 on a farm in Slope County, North Dakota, near Rainy Butte. She received her education in rural schools in Slope County. In the early 1930s she moved to Stanhope. On December 22, 1936, she married Ernest F. Erickson at Rainy Butte. The couple farmed south of Stanhope. She also was head of the bakery department at the Maple Willow dormitory complex at Iowa State for 12 years. Mr. Erickson died November 20, 1954. She continued to reside on the family farm.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Eldean and Margaret Erickson of Austin, Mn., grandchildren, Cherie Erickson of Madison, WI, Brian and Marney Erickson of Minneapolis, Michelle Erickson of Rochester, MN.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Edwin Peterson, and sister, Marian Peterson.

She was a member of the South Marion United Methodist Church, Sons of Norway, Swedish Club, Webster City Town and Country Garden Club, Sheep Association and Beef Producers.
