OBITUARY
Mrs. Martha Erickson

Mrs. Martha Erickson was born Aug. 26, 1859, in Sweden and died March 12, 1948, at her farm home two miles east of Stratford at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 16 days.

Martha Bjorklund, daughter of Eric and Annie [Hansdotter] Bjorklund, was educated and grew to young womanhood in Sweden. At the age of 20, she came with her parents to the United States, locating on a farm in Boone County.

On Dec. 10, 1883, she was united in marriage to Swen Erickson, and they started housekeeping on a farm across the road from her parent's home in Hamilton County. They made their home on this farm for 33 years before moving to the farm east of Stratford.

Mrs. Erickson was the last of a family of six children, having been preceded in death by her parents and five brothers. She was also preceded in death by her husband who died in 1921, and three sons, Emil and Albert, and one son who died in infancy.

She is survived by one son, Reuben Erickson of Stratford, and two daughters, Esther of Stratford, and Mrs. Anna Jennings of Chicago. Also two grand-daughters, Mrs. Caryl Ross of Chicago and Mrs. Ruth Weed of Port Lyautey, French Morocco, Africa. There are also three great-grandchildren: Richard Oren Ross, Harold Vincent Weed and Robert Jennings Weed.

Mrs. Erickson was a member of the Methodist church of Stratford and had been a member for over 50 years. She was a kind and loving mother and her family and church were her main interests in life. She will be greatly missed by her immediate family and her many friends.

Services for Mrs. Erickson were held March 14, 1948, at 2 p.m. at the Stratford Methodist Church preceded by a brief service at the farm home. Rev. E.A. Cochell officiated and burial was made in the South Marion Cemetery.
