George M. Erickson, 89, of Stratford, Iowa passed away at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa on Sunday morning, December 25, 2005. He had been a resident at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford, Iowa for the past three years.

Services were held on Tuesday afternoon, December 27th at 1:30 p.m. at the Stratford Lutheran Church. Pastor Joe Lambert officiated.

He was born on September 28, 1916 in Stanhope, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Charlotte (Gustafson) Erickson.

On June 1, 1938, he married Naomi Swanson at the Lutheran Church Parsonage in Boone. On October 14, 1990, he married LaVonne Hove at the Country Relic Village Church in Stanhope.

George was a farmer, carpenter, and handyman. He lived on his family's Century Farm east of Stratford for over 50 years.

He was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing cards, ballroom dancing, fishing, playing clarinet and alto sax in the East Marion Band, and spending time and sharing his humor with his grandchildren.

His parents, his first wife, Naomi in April of 1983, his second wife, LaVonne in September of 1998, one granddaughter, Dee Ann in 1982, six brothers, Norman, Carl, Floyd, Elmer, Virgil, Herbert, and three sisters, Hazel, Alice and Roberta preceded him in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Elaine and Gary Signs of Mountain View, Arkansas, Barbara Erickson of Stratford, Iowa, Donna Wilson of Ames, Iowa, one son, Daryl and Barbara Erickson of Ames, Iowa, step-children, Helen and Roger Peter, Mary and Jim Kepler, Harold and Marcia Hove, Paul and Linda Hove, Roger Hove, nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, one sister, Edna May Geiger of California, several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Interment was in South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the Stratford Lutheran Church. Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Stratford, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
