Funeral services for John Eckstein, 55, of Stratford were held Friday, July 27 in the Stratford United Methodist Church. Rev. Ellis Andrews conducted the 2:00 p.m. service. Interment was held in the South Marion Cemetery near Stratford. Arrangements were completed by the Hanson, Stark, Welin Funeral Home at Stratford.

Mr. Eckstein passed away Tuesday, July 24 at the Boone County Hospital. He had been in ill health for some time.

John Eckstein was born on a farm near Stratford on November 16, 1917. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher [Lyra Smith] Eckstein. On June 25, 1942, he married Lucille Johnson of Stratford.

The couple have always farmed in the Stratford area. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

Survivors include the widow, Lucille; two daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Mary Ann) Webster of Maryland and Mrs. Robert (Rosalyn) Stone of Boone; two granddaughters; mother, Mrs. Lyra Eckstein of Beloit, Wisconsin; grandmother, Mrs. Mary Eckstein of Boone; one sister, Mrs. Knut Erickson of Boone; one brother, Robert Eckstein of Clinton; two aunts, Mrs. Linda Lippert of Boone and Mrs. Vera Smith of Stratford.
