Mrs. Fred B. (Josephine) Downard, 84, longtime Webster City resident, died Sunday evening at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where she had been a patient the past three weeks.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church with Rev. Father Edgar Kurt officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Rosary will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral home.

Josephine Catherine Broihier, daughter of August and Anna Klein Broihier, was born Oct. 17, 1885, at Festina, Iowa. She received her education in the schools at Ossian, Iowa.

She was united in marriage July 3, 1915 to Fred B. Downard at Ossian. In the fall of 1915, the couple moved to Webster City where Mr. Downard owned and operated a jewelry store for many years.

She is survived by one daughter and two sons: Mrs. James (Charlotte) Phillips of Victorville, Calif., Ralph B. Downard of St. Louis, Mo., and Art Downard, Webster City; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. T.F. Schmitz of Ossian and Mrs. Ed Waters of Austin, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1953.

Mrs. Downard was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church and was active in church work for many years.
