Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, October 20, 2017

Mary Lou Mechaelsen, 83, of Kamrar, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, October 23, 2017, at the Community Church of Kamrar with the Rev. Peter Mueller officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 PM Sunday, October 22, 2017, at the church.

Mary Lou was born August 5, 1934, the daughter of Charles B. and Ruth V. (Johnson) Parrish in Webster City, Iowa. Mary Lou was united in marriage to Earl Mechaelsen on February 14, 1954. To this union 3 children were born.

Mary Lou was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following her family’s activities. Her competitive spirit was evident as she cheered on her team. Mary Lou would spend her quiet time reading and sewing quilts and spent hours watching the birds at the feeder. She always looked forward to Christmas and especially loved to decorate her home for the family celebrations. Her family was of utmost importance.

Those thankful for having shared in Mary Lou’s life include her children, Tim (Rhonda) Mechaelsen, Amy (Roger) Ratcliff, David (Tammy) Mechaelsen; sister, Nancy (Gus) Dermand; brother, Michael (Gloria) Parrish; sister in law, Margaret Brekke; brother in law, Alfred Mechaelsen; seven grandchildren, Brandon (Jessi Reding) Ratcliff, Brad (Sarah) Ratcliff, Brett (Bethanie) Ratcliff, Nate (Maria) Mechaelsen, Derek (Melissa) Mechaelsen, Joshua Mechaelsen, Josiah (Amy) Mechaelsen; 8 great grandchildren, Maddox, Miles, Monroe, Rocco, Berkley, Kennedy, Royce, Emily; Lexy, Cedes; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; sisters in law, Kay Mechaelsen and Audrey Parrish; and brother in law, Cleo Brekke.

Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
