W.J. IRVING DIES; SERVICE ON THURSDAY

Was Known to Friends as "Corn King" of Hamilton County

W.J. Irving, 66, prominent farmer living seven miles northwest of Webster City, died at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday at the hospital where he had been a patient since Thursday.

Death was caused by complication which developed following a major operation. He had been ill since Thursday, but had been in poor health for some time.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Foster funeral home, with the Rev. Fred Riggs, of Ames, and the Rev. James Stewart, this city, officiating. Burial will be made in Graceland cemetery.

Mr. Irving was widely known in this community where he had lived for many years. He was known to his friends as the "corn king" of Hamilton county for he specialized in raising fine corn and had won many prizes at fairs and exhibitions in this and surrounding states.

He leaves his wife [Jessie Henderson who he married April 12, 1905], and two daughters, Mrs. Harley Bell, of Stratford, and Mrs. Ward Peetz, of Winstead, Conn. There is one granddaughter, JoAnn Bell.

He also leaves two brothers and three sisters: Joe, city; John, in England; Mrs. Agnes Howieson, Clarion; Mrs. Jennie Burgess, Beatrice, Neb., and Mrs. Homer Barr, city.

A brother, Tom, died in April this year and he was also preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter who died in infancy.

He was born in Ayrshire, Scotland [son of Joseph & Agnes Carson Irving in 1874], and was baptized in that country. He was a member of the Mulberry Center United Brethren church and was always active in church and community affairs.

Besides his family he leaves other relatives and a host of friends.
