WIDELY KNOWN FARMER DIES AT HOSPITAL

Funeral Services for Thomas Irving, 58, to Be Held Tomorrow

Thomas Irving, 58, widely known farmer living six miles northwest of Blairsburg, died yesterday afternoon at the hospital, death being caused by pneumonia and complications.

He had been critically ill, however, for several days from peritonitis, which developed from a ruptured appendix.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Foster funeral home, with the Rev. Harold Putney, pastor of the Congregational church, officiating. Burial will be made in Graceland cemetery.

Thomas Irving was born Sept. 10, 1882, in Ardlochan, Ayrshire, Scotland, and grew to young manhood in that country, where he received his education. He was also baptized in the Established church of Scotland.

He came to the United States with his parents at the age of 19 and they located on a farm south of this city. He was married in Webster City March 2, 1906 to Mary Wood, also a native of Scotland.

They lived south of this city until 1915, when they bought a farm in Freedom township where they lived until 1922, at which time they bought their present home in Blairsburg township.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Joseph.

He leaves his wife, two sons, Charles M. and Thomas Carson, of Blairsburg, four grandchildren, Keith, Bonnie, Ruth and Ray Irving, and the following brothers and sisters: John, of Liverpool, England; Mrs. Agnes Howieson, of Rowan; W.G. Irving, of Blairsburg; Mrs. James Burgess, of Beatrice, Neb.; Joe Irving, of this city, and Mrs. Homer Barr, of Duncombe.

The Irving family are widely known in Hamilton county. They have large farm interests and are among the most successful farm operators in the county.
