Ernest F. Schweppe, 64, widely known Webster City resident, died suddenly at 2 p.m. Saturday at his home, 745 Cedar street. His death was attributed to a heart attack. He had suffered a severe attack last September.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ, preceded by a brief service at the Foster funeral home. The Rev. M.V. Chastain of Webster City and the Rev. Manson E. Miller of Minneapolis will officiate. There will also be a Masonic service, and burial will be made in Graceland cemetery.

Ernest Frederick Schweppe, son of Fred and Bertha Schweppe, was born Sept. 21, 1889, on a farm south of Webster City. He received his elementary schooling in the schools of this city, later attending 4-C college in Des Moines, majoring in law and bookkeeping. After his graduation from 4-C college, he came to Webster City, taking employment at the post office. He was called into service during World War I, serving overseas where he saw active service on the front lines.

After his discharge from the service, he returned to Webster City, accepting a position with the Webster City post office. He continued his services there until two years ago when he retired.

He was united in marriage August 4, 1922 to Miss Lottie Miller, and to this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Jones of Webster City. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Jones; one granddaughter, Linda Anne Jones. Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Albert of Sparta, Mo., and George of Webster City; Mrs. John (Emma) Robinson of Rush City, Minn.; and Mrs. John (Clara) Albright, who died Saturday evening.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Schweppe was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Will and Frank Schweppe.

He was a man of sterling character, kind and generous nature, and an earnest Christian. He was baptized in the Christian faith, and was a member of the Church of Christ where he was very active, serving as an elder for 32 years, was assistant superintendent of Sunday school and took a leading part in the campaign for the new Church of Christ and assisted in laying the cornerstone of the new church. At the time of his death he was treasurer of the building fund for the new church.

His home and his church were his main interests in life.

Mr. Schweppe was a member of the Masonic lodge, the Order of Eastern Star, the Acacia lodge, the Hope chapter, the Triune Commandery and the White Shrine of Jerusalem. He was the first Mason at Webster City to have held the highest office in all the above organizations. He was also a member of the Shriners at Des Moines.

It is the family's preference that friends so desiring may make memorials to the Church of Christ building fund.
