Chas. Mitchell Dies at 82; Rites Tuesday

Charles Mitchell, 82, longtime resident of Webster City, died Sunday evening at 7:30 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. He had been a patient there since Friday, but had been in failing health for the past year.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. C.H. Pettersen officiating and with the burial in Graceland cemetery.

Charles Mitchell, son of Hugh and Elizabeth Mitchell, was born Sept. 28, 1873 at Fisher, Ill. He was reared and educated in that community.

He was united in marriage at Foosland, Ill. on March 2, 1898 to Anna S. Cornell. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell farmed near Foosland for four years, then moved to Iowa, locating on a farm near Rockwell City in Calhoun county. They resided there nine years, then moved to Hamilton county and farmed near Webster City until 1918 when they moved into Webster City, their home since.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by two grandchildren, Mrs. Keith (Betty) Klein of Des Moines and Charles Mitchell of Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, Karen, Kreg and Kaye Klein; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. L. Lowell Fowler of Rockwell City; two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Percy (Belle) Nelson of Champaign, Ill., Minnie Wommeldorff, Webster City, Frank Mitchell of Fisher, Ill., John Mitchell of Dewey, Ill., and Roy Mitchell of Champaign; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, who died in 1955; and one son, Harold; one brother, Ralph, a sister, Mrs. O.N. Kurtz, and one sister in infancy.

He was a member of the Methodist church, a kind and generous husband and father. He will not only be missed by his family but by his many friends.
