Maxine Pilchard, 78, of Webster City, died Wednesday morning, May 15, at her home.

Graveside services were held Monday, May 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery with Rev. Ward Malloy officiating.

Mrs. Pilchard was cremated and there was no visitation. Foster Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Maxine Evelyn Walton, daughter of Wilson and Lena Nickerson Walton, was born March 25, 1913 at Waterloo. She was educated in Waterloo and Webster City and graduated from Webster City High School in 1931.

On June 10, 1933, she married Edgar Pilchard at Webster City. The couple farmed south of Webster City until 1954, when they moved to town.

She was a bookkeeper at Eichman's until 1962, when the couple purchased a grocery and meat market at the corner of First and Des Moines Streets.

They operated the E & M Market until 1970. She was then employed at Dunn's Super Valu until her retirement in 1979.

She was preceded in death by her husband in April of 1977.

Survivors include one son, Robert, and one daughter, Linda Griffen, both of Iowa Falls; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

She was a member of First Congregational-UCC, and was a former member of the Webster City Moose Lodge, the Rebekah Lodge and the Elks Lodge.
