SHAFER, SHAFFER, DOOLITTLE

Webster City Freeman, Webster City, Iowa, Monday, June 28, 1920

E.J. Shafer died at 10:30 o'clock Saturday morning at his farm home in Blairsburg township. He had the influenza last winter and had never fully recovered. He had a relapse a week ago and steadily grew worse. The funeral will be held at the home this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. D.W. Swender of this city and burial will be made at Cass Center.

Mr. Shafer was born in Blackhawk county and moved to Blairsburg township with his parents 51 years ago. He had lived there ever since. He was nearly 55 years of age. He was twice married and is survived by his last wife, four children and two step-children - Beryl, Mildred, Ralph and Harry Shafer and Clayton and Alberta Doolittle. All live at home on the Blairsburg township farm. Mr. Shafer was first married to Miss Mary [Matie] Doolittle and, after 23 years, she died in 1907. Nine years ago he married Mrs. Bert Doolittle, who survives him.

Due to his long residence in Blairsburg township, he was widely known in northeastern Hamilton county. For many years he had been prominent in the social and business life of his community and in his passing the sincere sympathies of many friends is extended to the sorrowing family.
