Merrill (Mick) McGilligan, 60, Webster City, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998 at his home. A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Rev. John Walsh officiating. A Scripture Service will be conducted at Foster Funeral home at 8 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Merrill James McGilligan, the son of John and Helena Frekey McGilligan, was born Oct. 11, 1937, in New York City. He received his education in New York City, a military school, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City in 1955. He also attended Iowa State University and Buena Vista.

On Oct. 20, 1962, he married Chris Henley at Kansas City, Mo. The couple resided in Kansas City, where he was with the U.S. Army in recruitment for four years. They moved to Webster City in 1963. He worked with his father in the restaurant business. Following his father's retirement in 1970, he continued operation of McGilligan's Restaurant.

Mr. McGilligan is survived by: his wife, Chris; three sons, John McGilligan, Sidney, Michael and Matthew McGilligan, Webster City, one daughter, Debra McGilligan, Webster City; grandchildren Jessica McGilligan and Destiny Sumpter; and his mother, Lee McGilligan, also of Webster City.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1983.

Mr. McGilligan was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
