Huddleston Rites Pending

Shad H. Huddleston, 75, prominent Webster City farm resident, died at 1 o'clock this morning at the Hamilton county hospital where he had been a patient the past 10 days. He had been in ill health the past three years.

Funeral services are pending, with the body lying in state at the Foster funeral home.

Shad H. Huddleston, son of Samuel and Mary Huddleston, was born Feb. 7, 1886, at McCook, Neb. When he was a small boy, he moved with his parents to Decatur, Ill. When he was eight years old, he came to Webster City to make his home with the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Huddleston. He was educated and reared in the Webster City community.

He was united in marriage Jan. 23, 1908 to Bessie McConnell, and to this union two daughters and three sons were born: Mrs. Nobel (Cora) Weir of Clarion, Robert Huddleston, Williams, Mrs. Don (Eleanor) Bradshaw of Long Beach, Calif., and Dr. Richard A. Huddleston of Elgin, Ill. One son, Frank, preceded him in death at the age of six.

Mr. and Mrs. Huddleston farmed in this community, and since 1921 Mr. Huddleston had farmed on the Hilltop Farm at the southeast edge of Webster City.

His wife preceded him in death Oct. 18, 1944.

He was united in marriage Oct. 2, 1955, to Mrs. Frances Tash Rutledge, and the couple had since lived on the Hilltop Farm.

Surviving are his wife; his two sons and two daughters; one sister, Mrs. H.E. Cornelius of St. Paul, Minn.; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by the one son, his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Huddleston was a member of the Methodist church. He sang in the church choir for many years.

Funeral services for Shad Huddleston, 75, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. R.D. Kitterman officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Ivan Hutson was vocalist and Mrs. William Steinbruch was organist for the services.

Pallbearers were Leslie Hanson, Will Stearns, C.K. Miller, Joe Katzer, Art Nairn and Byron Calkins.

Mr. Huddleston died Friday morning at the Hamilton county hospital.
