Edgar Whalen, 92, a longtime Stanhope area resident, died Sunday, April 8 at the Stratford Care Center.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the Christian Church in Stanhope with Rev. Richard Morris officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Hill Cemetery southeast of Stanhope.

Friends may call at Foster Funeral Home in Webster City after 7 p.m. today [Monday, April 9} until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Edgar Guy Whalen, son of John and Alice Goodman Whalen, was born March 13, 1898 on a farm in Clear Lake Township in Hamilton County. He attended rural schools.

On Dec. 10, 1919, he married Iva Irene Davis at Stanhope.

The couple farmed southeast of Stanhope until 1947, when they moved to a farm three miles north of Stanhope. They lived there until 1955, when they moved to Stanhope.

Following the death of his wife on Jan. 23, 1989, he continued to live in Stanhope. In March of 1989, he moved to the Stratford Care Center.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Nioma Whalen of Stanhope; a daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and Wayne Teig of Webster City; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

He was a member of the Christian Church of Stanhope and the Modern Woodmen of America.
