Irene (Mrs. Edgar) Whalen, 90, of Stanhope, died early this morning at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, following a massive heart attack.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Christian Church at Stanhope, with Rev. Rick Norris officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill Cemetery east of Stanhope.

Friends may call at the Foster Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today, until 8 a.m. Wednesday when the casket will be taken to the church.

Iva Irene Davis, daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (McFarland) Davis, was born July 25, 1898, in Hamilton Township. She attended rural schools north and east of Stanhope, graduating from Stanhope High School.

On Dec. 10, 1919, she married Edgar Whalen at Stanhope. The couple farmed southeast of Stanhope until 1947, when they moved to a farm three miles north of the city. In 1955, they moved into Stanhope, where they had since resided.

She is survived by her husband; one son and one daughter, Ralph Whalen of Stanhope and Roberta (Mrs. Wayne) Teig of Webster City; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Clair Davis of Diamond, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and four sisters. She was a member of the Christian Church in Stanhope, the Christian Women's Fellowship, and Royal Neighbors.
