OBITUARY

Andrew Peterson was born in Malexander soken, Sweden, March 14, 1839, and died at his home at Stratford, July 27, 1920, at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 13 days.

During the year 1868 he emigrated to this country and was united in marriage to Hedda Marie Carlson, December 9, 1869 at Altoona, Ill. Until the year of 1877 they lived at that place, when they moved to a farm one mile east of Stanhope. About the year 1900 they moved into Stratford where they have since lived and have been highly respected citizens.

Five children were born to them of whom one, a daughter, died in infancy. Those who survive are the aged wife and mother, three sons, C.G. Peterson and Henry Peterson, of Stratford, and Philip Peterson, of San Diego, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Gilbert Hanson, of Stanhope. Several brothers and sisters live in Sweden, while two brothers, John and Axel are in this country. Otto Peterson, of Stratford and Alfred Peterson, of Stanhope, and Mrs. August Oberg, of Nebraska, are brothers and sisters of the deceased.

The deceased was one of those frugal men who have made this country what it is. Although he left his native land and arrived here a little later in life than did many of our pioneers he helped in his humble way to pave the way for a better and more livable America, a richer Iowa and a more productive country. It is to men of his type that we owe infinitely more than can be figured in dollars and cents for such as he hewed the way for the younger generation.

Although he has been for several years unable to work and for more than two years has been confined to his bed, he bore his sufferings with true Christian courage and met death in a lifelike sleep.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at 2:00 o'clock from the Lutheran church of which church he was a member. Services were in charge of Rev. C.A. Callestrom, of Ogden, and interment was made in the cemetery at Stanhope [Lawn Hill Cemetery.]
