MEETS SUDDEN DEATH

John Malmberg Stricken With Apoplexy While Driving Home From Webster City and Dies Suddenly

HE RESIDED NEAR STANHOPE

Body Taken to His Home This Morning - Terrible Shock to His Family

While on his way home last evening from this city, whither he had journeyed for the purpose of paying a drainage assessment, John Malmberg, a prosperous farmer who resided near Stanhope, was stricken with apoplexy and died in a few hours. He and a friend had driven to Webster City in a buggy and after Mr. Malmberg had transacted his business in the county auditor's office, the men started on the homeward journey.

They had only gone as far as the Frank Huddleston farm at the southeast edge of the city when the tragic occurrence happened. Mr. Malmberg just threw up his hands and losing consciousness would have fallen from the buggy had it not been for his companion. He was taken into the Huddleston residence and later to the hospital in the ambulance. He did not regain consciousness and passed away about 9:30 o'clock. Mr. Malmberg enjoyed a fair degree of good health and had never suffered a previous attack of apoplexy. He was about 45 or 50 years old and is survived by a wife and five children. His body was taken to Stanhope this morning. His sudden death was a terrible shock to his family and friends.

[married Mathilda Marie Carlson Sept. 19, 1888 - four children born - burial Lawn Hill Cemetery, rural Stanhope]
