Stratford Courier, Stratford, Iowa, Thursday, February 27, 1908

Mrs. Johanna M. Malmberg died peacefully at her home near Stanhope Wednesday, February 19, after a short illness, having reached the ripe age of 83 years, 8 months and 4 days. Deceased was born in Jonkoping ? , Sweden, on June 15, 1824 and was united in marriage there sometime in 1844 or 45, the exact date not being known. To this union three children were born; one daughter and two sons - the sons surviving, but the daughter died in Sweden in 1869.

She was united in marriage again in 1861 and with her husband [Israel Malmberg] migrated to America locating on a farm near Stratford and on April 9, 1888 he passed to his reward. To this union two sons were born.

She leaves to mourn her death 4 sons, 14 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She was ever a true and faithful christian, a member of the Swedish church here, a loving mother and grandmother, always kind and considerate to all with whom she came in contact. Although for the last twelve years she has been blind she bore her suffering with the most patient fortitude.

The funeral services were held Saturday at the C.O. Sandahl home near Stanhope and were conducted by Rev. A.P. Green of the Swedish Lutheran church here. The remains were laid to rest in the Stanhope [Lawn Hill] cemetery. Peace be to her memory.
