Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Wednesday, August 24, 1927

Mathilda Marie Carlson was born in Smoland, Sweden, April 27, 1862. She came to America in 1886 and had made her home in Stanhope ever since.

She was married to John Malmberg on Sept. 19, 1888. Four children were born to this union, of whom three, Hannah, Arthur and Elmer, survive. The oldest son, Albert, died in France during the World war. Her husband preceded her in death 17 years ago. She was baptized and confirmed in Sweden and shortly after her marriage became a member of the Lutheran church at Stratford and had since been a faithful member.

She was a faithful wife, loving and thoughtful mother and ever ready to give help or sympathy to anyone in need in the neighborhood. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves to mourn her loss her three children and one grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Charley Malmberg, of Stratford, and one brother in Sweden, besides many other relatives and friends.

She passed away at Mercy hospital at Webster City, Aug. 20, 1927 [cemetery records/headstone shows she died August 19]. She was 65 years, three months and twenty-four days old.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. church at Stanhope Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Garanson, of Stratford, and Rev. G.H. Dick and Rev. I.G. Randels, of Stanhope. The body was laid to rest in Lawn Hill cemetery.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. Julia Adamson, Peter Bowman, Mrs. John Larson, Mr. and Mrs. John Fosberg, Mrs. John Engstrom and Pete Larson, all of Boone and Mrs. Marie Harvey, of Waukee.
