D.R. Knight Dies at Ames

Dannie R. Knight, 79, lifelong resident of the Stanhope community, died Friday evening at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient since Sept. 21. He had been in ill health the past five weeks.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Christian church in Stanhope with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating and with burial in Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope. The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral home until 9:30 a.m. Monday when it will be taken to the church.

Daniel Robert Knight, son of Daniel and Martha [Ritter] Knight, was born Sept. 13, 1886 [cemetery records show born in 1887] on a farm near Stanhope and he was reared and educated in the Stanhope community.

He was united in marriage in 1908 to Alma Lavine, and to this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Conrad (Marvel) Lundquist of Stanhope. His wife preceded him in death in 1937.

He was married Feb. 17, 1939, to Pearl Schmidt Riley, and the couple farmed south of Stanhope until 1953 when they moved into Stanhope, the family home since.

He is survived by his wife; the one daughter, Mrs. Lundquist; one step-daughter, Mrs. William (Nilva Jean) Henderson of Stanhope; one grandson, David Lundquist; three step-grandchildren, Ann, Billie Jean and Owen Henderson; two great-grandsons, Marty and Mickey Lundquist and one brother, Jimmie H. Knight of Stanhope.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one brother.

Mr. Knight was a member of the Stanhope Christian church and was a member of the Lions club at Stanhope.
