Webster City Freeman, Webster City, Iowa, Monday, November 11, 1918

Roy Howard Ferguson, for nearly two years a resident of Tama, passed away at the home of J.A. Wood Sunday afternoon, Nov. 3, after a brief illness of pneumonia, following an attack of influenza. He was born at Stanhope, September 11, 1891. When sixteen years old he went to Lake Mills, where he entered the service of the M. & St. L. Railway company as telegraph operator. After a year's work there he went to Waseca, where he worked as an operator for about four years. A year ago last March he came to Tama and went to work for the C. & N.W. Railway company as night operator and continued to work in the capacity until his last sickness, with the exception of a few months when he worked at Belle Plaine.

Mr. Ferguson was a thirty second degree Mason, although he had taken the first degree only a little more than three years ago at Parkersburg. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Many beautiful flowers were contributed to his memory.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Alice [Sneesby]Ferguson of Chugwater, Wyoming, who was with him during the last few hours of his life; a sister, Mrs. George Fisher, of Tampico, Mont.; one brother, Russell C. Ferguson, of Livermore, and his father, Howard Ferguson, of Livermore.

Genuine sorrow is expressed by all who knew this exemplary young man, and his many friends will remember him for his kind and jovial disposition and his friendship for his associates. He was a devoted son, his foremost thought ever being for the comfort and happiness of his mother.

Funeral services of a private nature were held under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity at Carl B. Harrison's undertaking rooms Monday evening at 8 o'clock, Dr. Frank P. Shaffer, pastor of the M.E. church, being in charge.

The remains were escorted by the ? and brother to the old home at Stanhope for burial Wednesday morning. Funeral services were held from ? C. Bute home in Stanhope, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. ?.

[Find A Grave lists him as born 1881 but I think incorrectly listed and even this obituary is hard to read numbers - buried at Lawn Hill Cemetery, rural Stanhope]
