SERVICE FOR J.I. FORSBERG

Widely Known Stanhope Farmer Dies; Was Born in Sweden

Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Stanhope Methodist church for John I. Forsberg, 69, who died at his farm home near Stanhope Friday.

There was a brief service at the home at 1:30 o'clock. The Rev. C.K. McNary officiated and burial was made in Lawn Hill cemetery, Fosters in charge.

John I. Forsberg was born in Ocklebo Lane, Sweden, Sept. 11, 1870. At the age of 22 years he was united in marriage to Miss Amanda Peterson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Peterson, of Stanhope. To this union four children were born: Clarence Leonard, of Jewell; May Bell (Mrs. Fred Long) of Stanhope; and Violet Mildred at home. Mrs. Fred Becker preceded her father in death five years ago.

Together with the children and Mrs. Forsberg he leaves to mourn his death a sister, Mrs. Carrie Anderson of Armstrong, and four brothers in Sweden. A brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

For the past four years he had been in failing health and last week he was taken to the Webster City hospital where he underwent a blood transfusion.

Mr. and Mrs. Forsberg lived at their farm home southwest of Stanhope for 22 years, when they retired and moved to Boone, where they lived for nine years. They then returned to the Stanhope community, moving to the farm south of Stanhope known as the Otto Peterson homestead. Here with Fred Becker and the two children they made their home.

He was an ambitious man, taking a great interest in his farm work. His smile and cheery greeting will be missed by all; likewise his generosity will be a cherished memory by those he had quietly helped in time of need. To those nearest and dearest he will always be affectionately known as "Dad."
