Webster City Freeman, Webster City, Iowa, Wednesday, August 24, 1898

Espey Bute, of Stanhope, died Wednesday, August 17, 1898. His death was caused indirectly from a blow received on the head from a ball while playing ball and over exertion afterwards. He was not in extra good health and it was harder for him to rally from the effects of the blow. Just before he died an abscess broke in his head and effete matter was discharged from his mouth which at last choked him in his almost helpless condition. Espey was an active, bright, young man. He was a mechanical genius and a hard worker and a bright student.

[buried at Lawn Hill Cemetery, rural Stanhope, headstone reads E.G. Bute - not sure who his parents are]
