A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Willard Guy Burris died in Napa on Aug. 4, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Marie Jean Burris, whom he married in Reno, Nev. in May 2002. He was married for 54 years to Norma L. Shrock of Des Moines. He is survived by daughters Rebecca Ford of Davis and Peggy Burris and her husband, Glenn Suyeyasu of Napa; son, Guy Burris of Sacramento; granddaughters, Kristin Ford and Amy Little; and great-grandsons, Jeffrey and Brady Suter. A sister, Charlotte E. Maas, and nieces and nephews also survive him in Iowa.

He was the son of Walter Guy and Jessie Myrne Taylor Burris of Ames, Iowa, and grandson of Ella and Willard M. Taylor Jr., early settlers near Stanhope, Iowa. He was a great-grandson of Nancy and Willard M. Taylor Sr., early settlers of Hamilton County, Iowa.

Professionally, he was a wholesale marketer for Continental Oil Company in Iowa and Atlantic Richfield Company in California. He was an Arco retiree. He also served in the U.S. Navy as a weather forecaster during World War II and the Korean War. He flew many missions in the Pacific and earned an Air Medal with citation. He was a life member of the Navy Weather Service Association.

He received Masonic degrees in Des Moines and served as Master of Yount Lodge No. 12, F and AM, Napa. He received 50-year Masonic honors in 1996.

Masonic services will be held at Richard Pierce Funeral Service, 1660 Silverado Trail, on Friday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Masonic Temple, 4125 Solano Ave. Graveside services will be held at Lawn Hill Cemetery in Stanhope, Iowa.
