Mark Bishop, 91, longtime resident of Hamilton county, died at 9:45 a.m. today at the Hamilton county hospital. He had been in failing health for several years, but suffered a heart attack Saturday.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. A.E. Rau officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill cemetery southeast of Stanhope.

Because of Mrs. Bishop's serious illness, several members of the family will be at the funeral home from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at which times friends may call.

Mark Bishop, son of Pleasant Wiley and Amelia Ann Timmons Bishop, was born Sept. 7, 1867, on a farm in Money Creek township, McLean county, Ill. He received his education in that community.

In 1899, he moved to Iowa, locating in the Stanhope community.

He was united in marriage Sept. 13, 1899, to Sarah Ellen East, and with the exception of a few years when Mr. and Mrs. Bishop farmed in Story and Mitchell counties, they had always since resided in Hamilton county.

They farmed in Cass township from 1927 until 1945, when they retired and moved into Webster City to their home at 816 Cedar St.

Mr. Bishop is survived by his wife and one daughter, Miss Nina Bishop of Webster City, one brother, A.J. Bishop of El Paso, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lola Dell, who died in infancy; one son, Thornton Gurney Bishop, who died at the age of three; his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Bishop was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church. He was a charter member of the Birthday club and also the oldest member of the club.

Mr. Bishop was known for his philosophy and ready wit, being keenly interested in his home, friends and community, especially the activities in Cass township where he served as Cass township committeeman in the AAA for 17 years.
