Alice M. Wing, 101 of Stratford, a former Stanhope resident, died Friday, January 17, 2003 at the Stratford Care Center. Funeral services were held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Joe Lambert officiating. Burial was at the Lawn Hill Cemetery, south of Stanhope.

Alice M. Nelson, daughter of Olaf and Hilda Hanson Nelson, was born November 6, 1901 on a farm east of Stanhope. She received her education at the Stanhope Public School, then attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. She taught in rural schools in the Stanhope area. On September 2, 1928 she married Jesse Arnold Wing at Stanhope. The couple resided at Stanhope. She was a seamstress and homemaker. Mr. Wing died June 5, 1975. She had resided at the Stratford Care Center since February of 1995.

Mrs. Wing is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Ralph Wing of Portland, Or.; Gary and Barb Wing of Stanhope; grandchildren, Mike Wing of Boise, Id.; Lorrie Ludwig of Grundy Center; Brian Wing of Walla Walla, Wa.; Jeff Wing of Portland, Or.; Ann Vogelbacher of Webster City; five great-grandchildren; sister, Pearl Nelson of Marblehead, Ma.; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Palmer, Herman and Clarence Nelson; sister, Lillian Nelson.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and Our Savior's Ladies Aid.
