Harry A. Wininger, 85, a longtime Stanhope area resident, died Wednesday afternoon at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames, where he had been a patient the past two weeks.

He had been in ill health the past year. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Grace United Methodist church in Stanhope with the Rev. Richard Miller officiating and with burial in the Lawn Hill cemetery in Stanhope.

The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral home until 9:30 a.m. Saturday when it will be taken to the church.

Harry Alfred Wininger, son of Sherman and Emma Johnson Wininger, was born March 22, 1889 at Oolitic, Ind. When he was 18 years old, he came to Iowa.

He was married Feb. 25, 1920 to Rose Bockwoldt, and the couple made their home on a farm northeast of Stanhope, moving into Stanhope 23 years ago.

He is survived by two daughters and one son: Mrs. Harold (Myrtle) Dow of Dows, Mrs. Ralph (Bertha) Perry of Ankeny and Ray Wininger of Stanhope; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. James (Belle) Allen and Jessie Wininger, both of Monticello, Ark. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1970; by his parents; four sisters and two brothers.

He was a member of the Grace United Methodist church in Stanhope and the Stanhope Lions club.
