Funeral services for Carl T. Schmidt, 71, will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Christian church in Stanhope with the Rev. Richard Russell and Pastor Jenny Edinger officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope.

Graveside Masonic rites will be conducted by the Acorn Masonic lodge of Stratford.

Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home until 10 a.m. Tuesday when the casket will be taken to the church.

Mr. Schmidt, a longtime Stanhope resident, died suddenly Saturday evening at the Hamilton County hospital.

Carl Thomas Schmidt, son of C.F. and Sarah McLeod Schmidt, was born May 18, 1913 at Fertile, Iowa. He was reared and educated at Fertile and Des Moines. He was graduated from Stanhope high school and Webster City junior college.

He served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in European, African and Middle Eastern campaigns.

He was married to Alice Bergman on Nov. 9, 1963 at Stratford and the couple had engaged in farming. He was also a rural mail carrier, retiring in 1977.

He is survived by his wife; one sister, Florence Schmidt of Rochester, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one who died in infancy, and Clare Schmidt.

He was a member of the Christian church at Stanhope and was also a church board member and taught Sunday school for many years. He was also a member of the Acorn Masonic Lodge, AF and AM, Stratford.
