Funeral services for Clare D. Schmidt, 65 years, were held Monday, October 27th at the Stanhope Christian Church with the Rev. Elmer Baker officiating. He was buried at the Lawn Hill Cemetery. Marian F. Hall of Rochester, Minn., was soloist and sang "How Great Thou Art," with Mrs. Eldred Lundquist as organist. Pallbearers were Boyd Berven, Everett Fuller, Lyle Greenfield, Richard Jans, Arnold Miller and Ray Wininger.

Mr. Schmidt, a longtime resident of Stanhope, died Saturday at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient for 10 days.

Clare Dale Schmidt, son of C.F. and Sarah McLeod Schmidt, was born March 16, 1908 at Nora Springs, Iowa. He received his elementary and high school education at Fertile, Iowa. He was graduated with honors from Drake University and served an assistantship at Iowa State University for 3 years.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and following his discharge, he came to Stanhope to make his home.

He is survived by one sister and one brother, Miss Florence L. Schmidt of Rochester, Minn., and Carl T. Schmidt of Stanhope.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother who died in infancy.

He was a member of the Christian church.
