C.G. Scott found dead at Stanhope

C.G. Scott, 83, longtime resident of Stanhope, was found dead in the stairway of his home here late yesterday morning. Dr. DeWayne Anderson, who served as acting coroner, ascribed the cause as death by hanging, self-inflicted.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Robert Winter officiating and with burial in the Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope.

Chelsea G. Scott, son of John and Millie Scott, was born Aug. 20, 1885 at Fort Recovery, Ohio and was reared and educated at Paxton, Ill., moving to the Stanhope community in 1908.

He was united in marriage Sept. 21, 1921 to Golda Snyder Olofson and the couple had always resided in the Stanhope community where Mr. Scott engaged in the auctioneering and automobile business.

He is survived by his wife; two step-daughters, Mrs. Curtis (Marvel) Reade of Bakersfield, Calif., and Mrs. Leroy (Delberta) Huskamp of Santa Barbara, Calif.; two grandsons, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three half-brothers.
