Clarence "Bud" Ober, 83, of Story City died Sunday, May 5, 2002 of Multiple Myeloma at Bethany Manor Nursing Home in Story City. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth with Rev. Michael Herschberger officiating. Burial was at Lawn Hill Cemetery, rural Stanhope. Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City was in charge of arrangements.

Bud Ober was born July 21, 1918 in Vincent, Iowa to Carl and Nellie (Kent) Ober. He lived in Stanhope until moving to Ellsworth in 1975. He lived in Story City the past five years. He owned and operated Bud's Clothing Store in Stanhope for 31 years, retiring in 1976.

Bud was a US Army Staff Sargeant during World War II from 1943-1945, serving in the South Pacific.

He married Frances Jacobson on December 28, 1941. She died in 1974. He married M. Jean Pearson on December 28, 1975. He had been a member of the Stanhope Christian Church, a charter member of Stanhope Lions Club, active in community work and served on the Stanhope School Board and Hamilton County Hospital Board. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Ellsworth American Legion.

Bud is survived by his wife, Jean Ober of Story City; two daughters, Jan Merrill and her husband Cleon of Des Moines and Leah and her husband Tyrrell of Lawrenceville, GA; two sons, Steve Ober and wife Nancy of Cedar Falls and Jerry Ober and wife Trish of Story City; three stepsons Jerry Pearson and wife Ann of Anamosa, Dick Pearson and wife Gail of Hinsdale, Illinois and Alan Pearson and wife Pat of Dubuque; 17 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, two sisters, Luella Doolittle and Charlotte Richey both of Webster City; and two brothers, Donald Scott of Monroe City, Missouri and Raymond Scott of Fort Dodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his stepfather.
