NELS NELSON, 62, DIED SUNDAY AT DES MOINES

Nels Herman Nelson, 82, long-time resident of the Stanhope community, died Sunday, February 3 at 5:45 a.m. at Veterans hospital in Des Moines. He had been a patient there the past seven weeks, but had been in failing health the past year.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 6 at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Stanhope, preceded by a brief service at 1:15 at the Foster funeral home in Webster City. The Rev. Walter Carlson officiated, and burial was made in the Lawn Hill cemetery.

Nels Herman Nelson, son of Olaf and Hilda Nelson, was born January 20, 1895 on a farm near Stanhope. He received his education in the Stanhope schools and grew to young manhood in that community.

He entered the service during World War I.

He was united in marriage to Inger B. Hanson November 6, 1923 and the couple made their home in the Stanhope community where Mr. Nelson worked with the Farmers State Bank for seven years. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson were engaged in the grocery business for 14 years, and for 12 years he had been engaged in real estate and insurance business. He was very active in community affairs.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Roger D. Nelson of Minneapolis; two brothers and three sisters: Palmer Nelson of Stanhope, Clarence Nelson of Albuquerque, N.M.; B. Lillian Nelson of Marietta, Ohio, Mrs. Jess Wing of Stanhope, and Mrs. Lyle Nelson of Watertown, S.D.; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

He was a member of the Lions club in Stanhope. Mr. Nelson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church in which he had held many offices.
