James A.B. Munsinger, 100, a former Stanhope resident, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 11, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, where he had been a resident for 3-1/2 years. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Church in Stanhope, Rev. Richard Morris officiating.

Burial was in the Lawn Hill cemetery, southeast of Stanhope. Graveside military services were conducted by Stratford American Legion Post 576. Foster Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James Arther [sp?] Burdell Munsinger, son of Burdell and Charlotte (Lee) Munsinger, was born June 18, 1891, in Cherry County, Neb. As a young child, he moved to Iowa with his parents. He was educated in the Fraser area near Boone. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I in France in a machine gun battalion. He married Lettie Scott on Aug. 20, 1919, in Webster City. The couple farmed in the Stratford area for several years, and later moved to Stanhope. He was employed as a tiler, school bus driver and trucker. For 32 years, he was employed by the Hamilton County Secondary Road system. He retired in 1962. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1963, and continued to reside in Stanhope.

He is survived by two daughters, Marie Mourlam, Eagle Grove, and Doris Kilmer, Stanhope; two sons, Marion Munsinger, Eldora and Marvin Munsinger, Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one half-sister, Opal Harris, Alton, Mo.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, his parents, a brother and a sister.

Mr. Munsinger was a member of the Christian Church in Stanhope; was a charter member of the Stratford American Legion Post 576; and was a life member of the Roll-Harless Post 3974 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
