Bernice A. Hanson, 91, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at Cottage Grove Place after a short illness. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids with Rev. James Adix officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Hill Cemetery at Stanhope at 4 p.m. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.

Bernice is survived by her husband of 68 years, Earling H. Hanson, two sons, Norman (Barbara) Hanson of Danville, Ill., and Franklin Hanson of Cedar Rapids, a sister, Doris (Irwin) Hokel of Milford; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Hanson and a sister, Irene (Leonard) Strong.

Bernice was born on March 6, 1914 in Boone to Ruth Soderstrum and Albert Johnson. She married Earling Hanson in 1937. They lived in Stanhope and Radcliffe before moving to Cedar Rapids. Bernice worked at Young Fashions for a number of years and following retirement, she and Earling spent winters in Harlingen, Texas. Bernice loved gardening, fishing, making crafts, and sewing quilts for missions. She was also an avid Iowa sports fan and loved being with her family and friends. We will all miss her.
