Hilman I. Granville, 77, longtime Stanhope resident, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday at his home in Stanhope. He had been in ill health the past three years but more seriously ill the past eight weeks.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Stanhope. The Rev. W.E. Carlson will officiate and burial will be made in the Lawn Hill cemetery at Stanhope.

The body will lie in state at the Foster funeral home until 10 a.m. Friday when it will be taken to the church.

Hilman I. Granville, son of Owen and Mary Granville, was born Sept. 14, 1883, at Newark, Ill. He received his elementary schooling at Newark, and when he was 15 years old he moved with his parents to Stanhope where he completed his education.

He was united in marriage March 12, 1908, to Teresse B. Nibe, and Mr. and Mrs. Granville farmed in the Stanhope community until 1938 when they moved into Stanhope, their home since. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1958.

He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters, Marlin Granville, Des Moines, Herbert Granville, Webster City, Mrs. Ruby Eklund, Boone, Orelin Granville, Des Moines and Mrs. Florence Byers, Stanhope; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, who died in infancy; his parents and four brothers, two of whom died in infancy.

Mr. Granville was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Illinois and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church at Stanhope.
