Clarence (Cub) Fosberg, 84, longtime resident of the Stanhope community, died early this morning at the Hamilton County hospital where he had been a patient since Friday. He had been in ill health since June.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Stanhope United Methodist church with the Rev. William Van Dam officiating and with burial in the Lawn Hill Cemetery southeast of Stanhope.

Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home after 6 p.m. today and until 9:30 a.m. Saturday when the casket will be taken to the church.

Clarence Leonard Fosberg, son of John and Amanda Peterson Fosberg, was born Oct. 18, 1899 on a farm south of Stanhope. He was educated in the Stanhope area.

On June 25, 1924 he was united in marriage to Josephine Lenore Jewell at Webster City. The couple farmed south of Stanhope.

He was preceded in death by his wife in September, 1966. He retired in 1967 after serving as town marshal of Stanhope for 24 years.

After his retirement, he continued to live in Stanhope.

He is survived by two daughters and four sons, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Whaley of Webster City, John (Corky) Fosberg of Ames, Gayland E. Fosberg, St. Charles, Mo., Sterling V. Fosberg of Agaura Hills, Calif., David N. Fosberg, Wichita, Kan., and Mrs. Gordon (Charlotte) Randall of Woolstock, 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three grandchildren, his parents and three sisters.

He was a member of the Stanhope United Methodist church and the Stanhope Lions club. He was a member of the Stanhope Senior Citizens club and was active in the Stanhope Senior Citizens band.
