Stanhope man killed in Wisconsin

DARLINGTON, Wisc. - A Stanhope man was killed Monday night when the semi he was driving collided with another truck at a southwestern Wisconsin intersection.

Nicholas R. Davis, 34, died after the semi he was driving, registered to Davis Truck Lines of Stanhope, collided with a truck operated by Mark E. Knuke of Reesville, Wisc., at the intersection of Wisconsin highways 2 and 11 in Lafayette County.

The accident occurred when Knuke fell asleep and his southbound truck went through a stop sign, colliding with the westbound Davis vehicle, authorities said.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 11:20 p.m. Knuke was not injured.

The accident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.

Nicholas (Nick) Davis, 34 of Stanhope, died Monday, August 4 in a two semi-truck accident near Darlington, Wis.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 at the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Stanhope with the Rev. Neal Solomonson and Kent Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill Cemetery.

Nicholas Ray Davis, son of Franklin and Ramona Story Davis, was born Feb. 21, 1952 at Webster City.

He was educated in the Stanhope and South Hamilton schools and attended Iowa Central Community College in Webster City. In September of 1972, he started driving for Davis Trucking.

Dec. 21, 1973 he married Marjorie Thompson at Kelley. The couple resided at Huxley for two yeas before moving to Stanhope.

Mr. Davis is survived by his parents; wife; three daughters, Angela Rae, Heather Nicole, Stephanie Eileen; one sister, Jan (Mrs. Gerald) Bearden of Roland; a grandmother, Maude B. Story of Stanhope; two nieces and one nephew.

He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and served with the Army Reserves in Ames for six years.
