Hazel Davis, 95, a former Stanhope resident, died Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Stratford Care Center. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Church in Stanhope, Rev. Richard Morris officiating. Burial was in the Lawn Hill Cemetery southeast of Stanhope.

Hazel Anna Whalen, daughter of John and Alice Goodman Whalen, was born Feb. 16, 1894 on a farm near Stanhope. She was educated in country schools. She married Roy H. Davis on Dec. 10, 1913 at her family home in Stanhope. The couple farmed in the Stanhope area until 1945, when they moved into Stanhope. Mr. Davis preceded her in death on July 14, 1980 and she continued to reside in Stanhope until moving to the Stratford Care Center.

She is survived by a brother, Edgar Whalen, at the Stratford Care Center; a nephew, Ralph Whalen, Stanhope; a niece, Roberta Teig, Webster City; and several great nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Davis was a member of the Christian Church of Stanhope, where she was active in ladies aid; was a member of the E.O.T. Club; and was a well-known quilter.
