Margaret Christensen, 78, of Portales, NM died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at the Bee Hive in Portales. She was born on August 18, 1928 in Stanhope, IA to Arthur and Gertrude Bockwoldt. On October 8, 1928 she was baptized at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope.

Margaret grew up in Stanhope and graduated in 1946 from Stanhope High School. She attended Waldorf College, and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames with BS degrees in sociology and psychology. In 1969, she received her BS degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. In 1949, she worked with the American Youth Hostels and UNESCO in Germany and France to help rebuild infrastructure for displaced/orphaned children. Margaret enjoyed exchange teaching programs, teaching both in Canada and Great Britain. She taught school in the St. Croix County school system for 18 years, until her retirement.

In 1952, she married Herbert Christensen. The couple had three children, two sons and a daughter.

She is survived by her three children, son Todd and his wife Monica and their children, Angie and Zoraida of Lima, Peru; son Scott and his wife Jane and their children, Amelia and Chris of Portales, NM; daughter Ann Christensen and her children Arthur and Alicia of Milwaukee, WI; a brother, Kenneth Bockwoldt and his wife Edna Marie and a nephew, Mark Bockwoldt and family, all of Stanhope, IA. Her parents preceded her in death.

Memorial services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clovis and also at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope, IA will be announced at a later time.
