Bernice Christenson, 85, Stanhope died Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 17 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services were held Friday, Dec. 20, 1:30 p.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Stanhope with the Rev. Richard Morris officiating. Burial was in the Lawn Hill Cemetery, southeast of Stanhope. Foster Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bernice Snyder, daughter of John and Cora Kepler Snyder, was born Sept. 23, 1906 on a farm north of Stanhope. She attended Fairview School in Hamilton Township, graduating from Stanhope High School in 1924. She was employed at the Stanhope Telephone Company.

On June 9, 1929 she married Arthur Christenson in Des Moines. The couple resided in Webster City where they owned and operated Farmers Restaurant. In 1931, they moved to a farm west of Kamrar. They moved to Sleepy Eye, Minn. for two years. They moved to Jewell in November of 1944 and to Webster City in 1959. She was preceded in death by her husband in November 1979. She continued to reside in Webster City until 1980 when she moved to Stanhope.

She is survived by her son, G. Max Christenson, West Des Moines; daughter, Guyneth Christenson, Falls Church, Va.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and brother Luverne Snyder, Sacramento, CA. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Stanhope, the Stanhope Senior Citizens and the YM Federated Womens Club.
