Charles M. Allen, 77, widely known Stanhope farmer, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton county hospital. He had been in ill health the past two years but more seriously ill the past two weeks.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Methodist church in Stanhope, preceded by a brief service at 1:15 at the Foster funeral home. The Rev. Reed Richards will officiate with burial in the Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope.

Charles Marion Allen, son of Jackson and Dyza Allen, was born Sept. 16, 1878, on a farm near Stanhope. He received his education in the Stanhope schools and grew to young manhood in that community.

He was united in marriage to Ella Wheeler on Sept. 26, 1910. Mr. and Mrs. Allen made their home on a farm two miles southeast of Stanhope and had lived there ever since.

He is survived by his wife, five daughters and one son: Mrs. Wilbur (Ruby) Eyestone of Grinnell; Mrs. Karl (Bessie) Klyng of Santa Rosa, Calif.; Mrs. Stanley (Faye) Sandvig of Thor, Iowa; Mrs. Ivan (Edna) Grasso of Boone; Mrs. Clifford (Gladys) Van Meter of El Sobrante, Calif., and Charles Allen of Stanhope; 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Fern Georgia, who died at the age of eight months; by his parents; one sister, Ada Allen; one brother, Andrew.

He was an active member of the Farm Bureau and was a member of the Methodist church in which he was very active. He had recently been made honorary member of the church board after having served on the board for 40 years.

His home, family and church were his main interests.

The family has requested that friends so desiring make contributions to the improvement fund at the Methodist church in Stanhope.
