Mrs. Edna Arendts, 79, longtime Stanhope area resident, died at her home Saturday morning following a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Grace United Methodist church in Stanhope with the Rev. William Van Dam officiating and with burial in the Lawn Hill cemetery southeast of Stanhope.

Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when the casket will be taken to the church.

Edna East, daughter of W.R. and Anna Kent East, was born Feb. 3, 1905 at Stanhope. She was educated at Stanhope and Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls.

For 35 years, she taught in the Kensett and Stanhope schools.

She was married Aug. 29, 1937 to Everett E. Arendts, and the couple resided at Kensett where Mr. Arendts worked for the railroad until 1945 when the family moved to a farm north of Stanhope.

She was preceded in death by her husband in January, 1971.

Mrs. Arendts then moved to Stanhope where she has since resided.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Martha Ann and Rodger Arends of Stanhope; two grandchildren, Mrs. Scott (Julie) Bennett, Polk City, and Curtis Arends of Stanhope; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Wilma Christenson, Stanhope, and Mrs. Helen Streebin, Bedford, Iowa, and Marvin East, Webster City; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist church in Stanhope, the UMW, the EOT club and the Stanhope Senior Citizens.
