Sam Anderson, 81, lifelong resident of the Stanhope community, died suddenly Monday evening at the Hamilton County hospital. His death was attributed to a heart attack.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Christian church in Stanhope with the Rev. Robert Karl Miller officiating and with burial in the Lawn Hill cemetery southeast of Stanhope.

The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral home until 9:30 Friday morning when it will be taken to the church.

Samuel Grant Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Anderson, was born July 26, 1886, on a farm near Stanhope and was reared and educated in the Stanhope community. He served in the armed services during World War I in France, and following his discharge in 1919 returned to the Stanhope vicinity.

He was married March 15, 1920 to Gertrude Marie Carlson, and the couple had always since resided in the Stanhope area.

He is survived by one son, Virgil G. Anderson, Webster City; and one grandson, Jimmy Virgil Anderson; one brother, Arthur M. Anderson of Sturges, S.D., and one sister, Mrs. Alice Clanahan, Stratford.

Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his wife Feb. 22, 1959; by his parents and one brother, William Anderson.
